Cambodia is home to Indochina’s most magnificent site, the temples of Angkor, ornamented by the finest artisans of its time, once redolent with incense and prayer, were lost beneath the sands of time only to be re-discovered at the opening of the last century. Whether one be king, queen, courtier or commoner, he or she would have had a mind-transforming experience of the order and harmony of the universe, the presence of powers far greater than mortal man. We know this because it is the same as we enter Angkor today.

Our appreciation and exploration of Southeast Asia and the country of Cambodia began with a phone call between the famous photographer Kenro Izu and Tina Patterson, founder of Authentic Asia many years ago. Tina assisted Mr. Izu in organizing his first photographic trip to Cambodia in 1996. During a series of return visits Mr. Izu’s life was forever changed by his encounters with the children of Cambodia in desperate need of medical care. Izu founded Friends Without A Border (Friends) in 1996 and dedicated himself to building a pediatric hospital in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC) was completed in 1999 and has since treated over 650,000 children.

Tina Patterson has been a member of the “Friends” board since its beginnings and, over a period of ten years, has traveled to Cambodia on behalf of Authentic Asia and Friends Without A Border several times a year. Thanks to the people of Cambodia, we have developed a deep and warm appreciation for the Khmer culture and a wonderful network of colleagues, guides and friends all of whom are happy to share their knowledge and enthusiasm for Cambodia with you.

When traveling in Cambodia, with a group, or individually, you will be accompanied by our local guides Mr. Dara or Mr. Monirom and a private driver throughout. Standard of accommodations ranges from deluxe to simple and basic in Siem Reap, home to the ruins of Angkor. Individual tours can be arranged to include Angkor and the capital city of Phnom Penh. We suggest that you combine your journey with Laos, Vietnam or Thailand all of which are just a short flight away from Siem Reap.
